What are customers saying about Shell Energy?

The Ugly – 1-Star Reviews
Starting with the worst of the worst, Shell Energy has one of the highest proportions of bad ratings from our research, but what exactly are they doing wrong?

Starting with the most common reviews, Shell Energy seem to have a poor customer service record, as the majority of customers are complaining about getting in touch with the energy supplier.
That is when they can get through to them. We noticed a lot of people stating that it takes an extremely long time to get in touch with Shell Energy, and then the issues seem to get worse once you finally speak to someone.
When it comes to getting issues fixed, Shell Energy don’t take ownership. Along with poor communication, the energy provider seems to give out very limited information, making processes confusing for customers.
In addition, another trend we noticed was smart meter troubles. One reviewer stated that after numerous phone calls to Shell Energy, their smart meter didn’t display usage which can be extremely useful during these current energy crisis times.
The Bad – 3-Star Reviews
Taking a look at the 3-star reviews, again there was a clear and obvious issue facing most customers. Waiting times. It seems that everyone is having the same problem, luckily, we have noticed this and have a dedicated team to answer all of your calls.

Shell Energy seem to have an inadequate queueing system where it takes way too long to reach the right department. If you have an issue that needs solving, you shouldn’t have to wait for long periods to get it resolved.
I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be, especially during these unprecedented times to have to wait on hold while you get an extremely important issue fixed.
In addition, smart meter problems look to be a concern for Shell Energy. One customer has had a broken smart meter for more than a year without it being fixed, with another customer finding it a lengthy process to simply get it reviewed.
Then comes the app and website. Linking this complaint with the smart meter issues, a complaint we noticed was that you could “opt-in” for Shell Energy to take readings from my Smart Meter, however, there was no way to allow this on the website. For such a big firm to have a poor website is pretty disappointing.
The Good – 5 – Star Reviews
And finally, let’s look at the good. More than half of the 60,000 reviews were rated as excellent. The key word we noticed from Shell Energy was ‘helpful’.

There were plenty of customers saying lovely things about the customer service team at Shell Energy, however, this comes with a bit of a catch.
Lots of people were happy with the service… once they got through to an advisor. So even with the good reviews, people were still unhappy with how long they had to wait.
So no matter how good their service is, the waiting times still were causing a lot of dissatisfaction amongst customers.
Difficult to contact, smart meter troubles and no real ownership. The list goes on. Luckily, there are companies out there learning from these failures and that’s where we come in.
