A Deep-Dive – What are customers saying about SSE Energy?
By conducting thorough research across multiple review sites, we have gathered verified customer reviews of SSE Energy and how they conduct their business. We believe it is only by listening to customers that you will gain a true understanding of how a business behaves as there is no amount of slick marketing that can spin-doctor a good honest review.
The results of our research can be found below:
The Good – 5-Star Reviews

SSE Energy is another Big 6 energy supplier to add to the list of suppliers with overwhelmingly negative reviews. Over 90% of their reviews were in the 1-star category…
There were a few 5-star reviews… But there was really not much to choose from.
But yet, there are some interesting trends to observe where they got things right.
Firstly, their customer service can on occasion be quite good. Customers felt that they had gotten through to agents with fantastic telephone manner who really truly understood their problems. Where customers felt listened to, they let the internet know by leaving a 5-star review.
Interestingly, just like Scottish Power, there is a worrying trend of customers leaving complaints through a 5-star review. It appears that SSE do not really reply to the litany of 1-star reviews so customers hope that by leaving their thoughts as a 5-star review it is more likely that it will be seen and acted on.
The Bad – 3-Star Reviews

Again, 3-star reviews were littered with serious worries.
Customers had encountered problems with finding their account and accessing it online. Help was not really forthcoming with many customers stating they had to endure long waiting times to speak to anyone. There were also mixed complaints about the website and mobile app too.
However, there were some positive reviews in here. Customers with problems seemed to follow the same problems and solutions. Long waiting times, speak to an agent who would pass on their problem to another (sometimes being bounced around to multiple agents), before finally finding an agent who understood the issue and was willing to listen and help.
The Ugly – 1-Star Reviews =

There were plenty of 1-star reviews to include in our exploration. Plenty.
Certainly not a shortage of data here.
Customers, like with other suppliers, noted how frustrated they were left by smart meters. Problems would begin with pushy communication from SSE before scheduling and timing issues, with engineers being late and rude. From here, customers would regularly find issue with their meters that would either over-estimate consumption or simply not work.
Here is where the real problems began.
Hours and hours spent in queues to speak to SSE before reaching rude, unprofessional agents with reports of ‘laughter and shouting’ in the background during calls.
Staff were reluctant to act on complaints and would fail to listen to customers, often avoiding the issue completely.
Most worryingly is the multitude of complaints where customers let SSE know they are changing supplier. Within this is many long-term customers who are sick of how SSE conduct business
