Suppliers are Breaching Licence Conditions: We’re Naming and Shaming Unregistered Energy Brokers and non compliant Suppliers.
The UK energy market for microbusinesses is still being undermined by widespread non-compliance. Since October 2022, a core Ofgem Licence Condition has required energy suppliers to only work with Third-Party Intermediaries (TPIs) that are registered with a Qualifying Dispute Settlement Scheme (e.g., the Energy Ombudsman).
The reality? Many are still onboarding vulnerable businesses via unregistered brokers, opening themselves up to significant regulatory risk and multi-million-pound fines from Ofgem. This is unacceptable and leaves businesses exposed to mis-selling with no clear path to redress.
Our Action Plan: We believe transparency is the strongest tool for compliance. We are building a public resource site to expose the systemic failure:
- Name the Brokers: Publicly listing the unregistered brokers we identify engaging in sales activity.
- Public Letters: Issuing formal, public open letters to the non-compliant suppliers, highlighting their specific breaches.
- Ofgem Follow-Up: Systematically chasing both suppliers and Ofgem to ensure enforcement action is taken.
The time for silent compliance is over. We are creating the necessary public pressure to protect microbusinesses from aggressive, unregulated sales tactics.
Join us in demanding accountability. If you have evidence of an unregistered broker being used by a licensed supplier, please share your experience.
